Bite Into 'The Amazing Spider-Man' Terrifying Lizard Concept Art

The Russian site SpiderMedia has posted exclusive concept art from the upcoming reboot The Amazing Spider-Man. Its not confirmed by the studio, but ScreenRant does a good job running down the reasons it's probably legit.

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) is a reboot of the classic comic book hero Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) pitting him against the Lizard (Rhys Ifans). Ifans described him as "scaly, strong, big and sexy" and he certainly looks imposing. In the comics Dr. Curt Connors tries to heal his missing right arm and inadvertently becomes the villain known as "The Lizard".

The site has the following description:
Here it is, the concept art of our dreams: Lizard (Lizard) from the movie "The New Spider-Man" (Amazing Spider-Man) [Translated from Google]
Click on the artwork below to see it in higher resolution.

It looks pretty interesting with four fingers and leathery skin. While it's hard to judge scale Ifans did say the Lizard is "9-foot-tall and green and covered in scales" with a tongue that can lick you to death.

Splendid stuff.

The following is from IMDb. Production Design by J. Michael Riva. Concept artists are James Carson, Paul Catling, Matt Codd, George Hull, E.J. Krisor, Fabian Lacey, James Lima, Ron Mendell, Ed Natividad, Josh Nizzi, Gloria Shih, Simon Webber. Storyboard artists are Robert Consing, Warren Drummond, Dan Sweetman, Amy Lynn Umezu

What do you think of the Lizard designs?

  1. Personally I would've preferred the "snouty" Lizard but I guess this particular prosthetic makeup would allow Rhys' acting performance to be better with regards to facial expressions...
